THE ORANGE SHOP - DAS WANDERLUST

Das Wanderlust's new offering: annoyingly catchy.

Das Wanderlust

You might not know it, but Middlesbrough is a hotbed of creative talent. The birthplace of the Sneaker Pimps, Reeves and Mortimer and Paul Daniels, Middlesbrough is one of the best kept secrets in the media industry. And the latest offering from the quaint North East town comes in the form of Das Wanderlust.

But don’t let these other residents fool you, you won’t find surreal comedy or the hypnotic lyrics of Chris Corner in here. Their single, ‘The Orange Shop’, is about as deep and dark as a fish tank, but still as vibrant as Mardi Gras. The three track single, featuring two versions of ‘The Orange Shop’ and ridiculously chantable ‘Red Sauce/Brown Sauce’ bursts with chaotic energy and life. Occasionally, it doesn’t seem to work on CD (the aforementioned ‘Red Sauce/Brown Sauce’ gets a bit annoying after a while), but this is a band who you can tell from recordings would be spectacular live, and that is reason enough to give the single a listen.

‘The Orange Shop’ is definitely the superior of the two tracks. Laura Simmons’ unique voice really comes across, and the keyboards in the track are utterly uplifting.

Das Wanderlust aren’t for everyone, but if you like frenzied electro-pop, they’re definitely a band for you.
